Steve Hughes
In memory of Stephen Hughes 19|4|1963 – 25|5|2024
Founder of the Octagon Clinic
Steve graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 1990 with a previous degree in Biochemistry from Manchester University. After working in general practice in Brighton and London he established the Octagon Clinic in 1998 as a true family Chiropractic clinic with a particular interest in the treatment of babies, children and pregnant women and as such was one of the very first of its kind in London.
Steve was also the first Chiropractor to work at the Cheyne Centre at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital established for the integration of treatment and education for children with profound special needs, especially with Cerebral Palsy and associated disorders. The Cheyne benefitted from a conventional hospital framework with input from Paediatric consultants, Neurologists, Speech and Language therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists and OTs but also contributions from Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Massage Therapists to create a true holistic environment to meet the children’s needs.
‘It was such a privilege to be involved in this extraordinary institution and to see first hand how an integrated approach in Paediatric care can have such profound effects.”
Steve was Academic Dean of the Royal College of Chiropractors and an External Examiner at the AECC as well as teaching Paediatrics and Pregnancy care at undergraduate and postgraduate level both in the UK and in Europe.
But Steve’s real passion was clinical practice and he loved his interaction with is patients of all ages. Many whom he had cared for over 25-30 years. It was a real friendship that went both ways.
He absolutely loved helping pregnant women find ease, and he worked closely with the local doulas supporting women during this phase. Many of his new born patients are now adults and kept coming in for check-up’s.
His wife Tone Tellefsen Hughes will now take over the management of the practice, and she is passionate to keep the vision and values that Steve instilled over the past 26 years. He will be missed by so many.
